Common Myths about a Burglar Alarm

by Eureka Forbes Owner
A burglar alarm is one of the best security systems that have proven to be the most efficient when it comes to stopping illegal property intrusion. Unfortunately, their effectiveness is significantly surrounded by a few myths, which are completely baseless.

While many believe that installing a burglar alarm is the best way to keep intruders at bay, a few seem to have contrary opinions, and most of them have given way to some serious myths about burglar alarms. Let’s spend some time busting a few of these.

Burglar Alarms are meant for top-class apartments

That is not at all the case. Although high-class apartments are the most preferred targets for burglars, it won’t be wise negating the fact that even a small housing society can fall prey to thefts. According to a few experts, burglars usually tend to approach locations where they are least expected. So, if you are not quite ready, your home turns out to be a perfect target for burglars. Therefore, it would be wise to have a burglar alarm installed irrespective of where in the city you reside.

A Burglar Alarm is expensive

No doubt, when hi-tech, wireless burglar alarms were initially introduced, the prices were high, and not many could afford it. Moreover, only a few companies manufactured approved alarm systems. However, that’s not the case anymore. With numerous security systems manufacturers in the market, the prices have dropped drastically. Companies now thrive to offer customers the most secure burglar alarms at the lowest possible price.

You Need an Expert to Install a Burglar Alarm

Alarms these days are much easier to install and therefore do not require any expert guidance. The systems include a D.I.Y. installation guide with information on how to carry out the installation step by step. Although the original installation process may not require an expert, activities such as drilling holes would want you to bring in a technician who has the necessary tools at hand.

Alarms can irritate your neighbours

That’s not at all true. In fact, the presence outside your home will highly be appreciated by your neighbours, as a suspicious activity sensed around your home will also keep them alert.

Burglar Alarms require you to pay a monthly fee

Corporate houses hire security companies that offer hi-tech, automated security alarms that are remotely monitored. Also, periodic maintenance activities are carried out ensuring the system is in good shape at all times.

However, domestic alarm systems do not require you to pay a monthly fee, as they are completely owned by you. Also, these systems can easily be maintained.

Alarms can’t keep burglars at bay

This is the most popular myth that has unfortunately been accepted as a reality worldwide. Bear in mind that burglars refrain from entering a property that is well equipped with security systems. Burglar alarms are usually not hidden and therefore are prominent. Their presence alone is good enough to keep burglars at bay.

It is easy to fiddle around with a burglar alarm

Burglar alarms which were available a couple of decades ago consisted of cables which could easily be disconnected by just cutting them off. However, the introduction of wireless alarms put an end to this malicious technique.

These are just some of the myths that have created a bunch of misconceptions about burglar alarms. However, there are many more, and listing them all down may not humanly be possible. So, before you come across a certain negative claim about alarms, it would be wise first to investigate rather than just settling down with the claim.
