by Mitun Mukherjee Milkio food product

You may have noticed that clarified butter and butter are sold next to each other in grocery stores. But what are the differences between the two? If you have ever fumbled with this dairy dilemma, we are here to help you out. Knowing the actual facts about clarified butter vs butter will help you to choose the right one for your pantry.

What is butter?

Butter is a dairy product that is made by churning the milk, most often from cows. Butter contains lactose and casein, which is not appropriate for lactose-intolerants’ diet. It has a rich, creamy mouthfeel and nutty, feel-good flavor. You can use butter in various cooking applications like spreading on bread, garnishing, sauce making, etc. Butter is suitable for low to medium-heat cooking as it burns quickly due to its low smoke point.

What is clarified butter?

Clarified butter is pure butterfat that does not contain dairy proteins or sugars. Therefore, it is a viable alternative for those with dairy allergies. To prepare Clarified butter, naturally heat the unsalted dairy butter. Now, wait until the water content evaporates and the milk solids are separated. Now skim the milk solids out from the liquid, and you will be left with pure clarified butter. Clarified butter or ghee is a healthy alternative to butter. It is great for weight management, memory functions, skin health, gut health, and bones health.
