Choosing Formal Wear For Men Properly And With Ease

by Divya S. Content Writer

India is a country that is proud of its heritage and why shouldn’t that be, when there are so many cultures woven together? This boils down to a great number of choices available to men and women with regards to clothing and dressing. While formal dress for men in western countries means tuxedos and jackets in dark colours, in India, formalwear can mean anything between blazers and suits to Kurtas and Sherwanis. With so much choice, it can be overwhelming to decide what to wear. Here are some ideas for formal dress for men.

Dress for the occasion

Ultimately, it is about dressing appropriately for the occasion. When you are deciding what to wear, always think about what others would be wearing for the occasion. If you have been invited to a wedding, then Indian formalwear makes a lot of sense. Of course, you could go with western attire as well like a suit. For a fancy party that calls for formalwear, you could choose to team a blazer with a formal trouser and shirt combo. For a boardroom meeting, nothing speaks more class than dark-coloured formal pants and a light-coloured shirt.

Match but not all the time

With men, it is easy to fall into the trap of matching clothes all the time. It is no doubt convenient to do so when all you need to do is dress and go out of the door for the day, but thinking out of the box can be fun too. For example, formal wear for men, the suit can be a ubiquitous choice for many people but that does not mean you have to match everything. Choose a bold-colour formal shirt to go with a neutral shade suit to stand out in the crowd. It is not only going to make you look different from the rest, but you will also be having fun in the process.

High-quality accessories

Though women have a lot more to choose from when it comes to accessories, men too can opt for better quality accessories in today’s times. Belts and shoes are the two things that a man absolutely needs to invest wisely in. A few years ago, the watch was an essential item in a man’s wardrobe but with the advent of smartphones, the watch has become something of a dinosaur. The belt is something that is best kept traditional with formal shirts for men. Leather belts look good and it is best to stay away from ornate buckles and strangely-coloured products. They make no sense in a formal setting. Invest in high-quality dress shoes which are also known as formal shoes. They will serve you well for a long time and they will go with all your workwear.

Good brands

Always try to buy from known good brands. India has a very good number of great brands catering to men’s formal and semi formalwear. But you should select a brand that is known for its styles as well as quality of materials and stitching. Whether it is formal shirts or formal trousers, good brands will fetch you returns because they will last for a long time and also keep looking nice till the end.

Fitted but not tight

With men’s formal clothing, the right fitting does not mean ‘’too tight’’. For some time, people were obsessed with ‘’fitted clothes’’ which made movement difficult but not anymore. Comfortable attire that fits well to the body of the person wearing it is the best.

Take proper care

Always keep your formalwear collection neatly laundered and pressed. Make it a habit to do this every week so that you are never short of formalwear on mornings when you want to get dressed up. Formal shirts and suits should be kept in wardrobes with wooden hangers so that they keep their fall well.
