Choices Abound When Trying to Stay Cool in the Summer

by Kevin Smith Author

There are many ways to cool off during the hot summer months. Some are better than others. Ice cream, a trip to the beach, an air conditioner, and a fan are among the solutions that people come up with. However, engaging an Atlanta pool builder to install a pool may be your best option when it comes to staying cool and fit during many of the months of the year.

Ice Cream, Coffee, Other Drinks

A nice cold ice cream cone on a hot day makes for a nice contrast and seems to help cool you down immediately. However, some would argue that the effects are momentary and soon create the opposite of what was intended. By lowering your body temperature with ice cream, you will actually feel warmer as the difference between the air temperature and your body temp will become greater. These folks may choose to drink hot coffee. By raising their core body temperature, the difference is smaller and it feels, objectively, less hot outside. Coffee, also, increases the heart rate allowing more blood to take advantage of the cooling powers of sweat. Alcohol may also be consumed. As a vaso-dilator, it opens up the persons veins and helps them to receive the benefits of sweating. Sugary drinks help replace the fluid loss through sweating. Unfortunately, all of these options could make you fatter as you consume more calories than you burn.

Going to the Beach

Nothing is more cooling than a nice breeze coming off the ocean and onto the shore. A quick dip into the water, and you'll feel cool and refreshed. However, trips to the beach can't happen everyday. With the cost of gas, even if you don't eat while you are there, you might be looking at a bill that is more than you can afford. It's not a solution to the heat -- just a band-aid.

Indoor Solutions

An air conditioner and a fan can make all the difference, but that means you are required to be inside breathing recycled air. With a fan, you might even be required to sit in one place. Avoiding the outdoors because of the heat is a terrible way to live, and it could have health consequences if you aren't able to get Vitamin D in sufficient quantities.

Going Outdoors

Hiring an Atlanta pool builder gives you a leg up on summer fun. You will have a great way to cool down and a great place to exercise. You don't have to go anywhere because it's on your property. Pools also offer you the opportunity to spend more time with friends.
