Child Psychologist Can Reverse Motor Impairment in Autistic

by Dr. SANJEEV GUPTA Paediatrician

What is Autism?

Autism, a part of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), is defined as anomalies found in children. These anomalies manifest as repetitive behaviors and communication challenges during social interaction. If parents consult with an experienced child psychiatrist when their child is a preschooler, it can be diagnosed early.

What are the symptoms of Autism?

  • Movement Disorder
  • Communication challenges
  • Repetitive behavior
  • Hypersensitivity
  • Fear of social interaction
  • Lack of coordination between motor and emotions

Early Detection Speeds Up Recovery:

An early detection could speed its recovery. The research team at the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine in Pennsylvania got a breakthrough in this direction. Its study determined that the hearing problem could lead to oddity in behavior in Autistic patients.

Simply say, the hampered auditory functions may cause difficulties in understanding. As a result, the immature mind interruptedly picks up words. Therefore, a delay occurs in developing sense. The researchers suggested for a testing, viz. Stapedial Reflex or Acoustic Reflex testing.

This testing helps in assessing the sensitivity to a wide range of frequencies. It identifies changes in the pressure of the middle ear in response to sounds.

Impaired Hearing Leads to Behavioral Changes:

Hearing evolves on the speech-language development. It further affects the socio-emotional progression in a tiny tot. Any damage to hearing functions can retard psychological progress. Its adverse impact reflects in repetitive utterance, slow comprehensibility and behavioral changes.

The professional paediatricians recommend that the early interventions can literally train out deficits that lead to ASD. The child could be qualified for improvement in behavioral changes.

Behavioral Training to Recover:

The researchers at Cardiff University claimed that the mutation of the CYFIP1 gene outbreaks changes in the brain development. Consequently, the motor issues shoot. The child encounters with motor learning difficulties at a young age.

Besides psychological challenges, the autistic child suffers from movement disorders. These disorders adversely impact posture, motor planning and coordination. The CYFIP1 gene stems the ASD, affecting the structural stability of brain cells. Thereby, the spines of the brain cells become unstable, which causes motor issues during autism.

If a child psychiatrist or a paediatrician discovers this disorder during early childhood, the behavioral training sessions can reverse its bad impacts. As a repercussion, the recovery process can be stimulated.
