Cherry Laurel For Hedging

by Rio Dave Hair Stylist
Laurel is known as English Laurel by many because of huge popularity in the UK. For privacy and screening from noise, pollution, and strong wind, Laurel is the ideal choice as it grows dense foliage, made up of huge tough leaves. An established Laurel hedge is not easy to penetrate.

Laurel plant comes from the same family as the Plum, Peach and Cherry and it will produce tiny inedible cherries after flowering. No matter how hard it is cut back, this plant will continue to survive and grow because it is so unbelievably hardy.

Whilst Laurel may not be the fastest growing plant you could choose for creating a hedge, it has many other advantages, which have lead to its huge popularity, and requires much less pruning than other faster growing plants. The majority of people prefer plants to be low maintenance. The maximum height for a Laurel would be 20ft, but you should expect approximately 1ft of growth per year.

Regardless of your soil type or the conditions you place it in, Laurel can still grow as it can cope with very poor soil and conditions. With its shiny evergreen foliage, flowers and cherries, this plant will add interest to your hedge throughout each season. Laurel is sufficiently hardy to plant at any time during the year providing you avoid any extreme weather conditions. When starting a new hedge you should position your plants 2 ft apart as this will give you a good level of density.

To assist the new roots to establish quickly, water regularly at the start. This is essential.

For a neat hedge you will have to prune periodically. You can prune any time in the spring and summer and use secateurs if you do not want to cut the leaves in half.

Enhance the appearance of your home with a stunning Laurel hedge. Purchase healthy plants from your local garden centre or plant nursery.
