Holi is one of the most ancient festival of India which is celebrated with much joy and fervor throughout India. The popularity of Holi is more prevalent in northern part of India, especially in states such as Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, etc. Of all the places in India, Mathura-Vrindavan leads when it comes to Holi celebrations and it is so popular that people from all over the world gather here to witness the week long Holi celebrations. Holi is known by quite a few other names in different regions of the country such as Dulandi Holi, Dol Purnima, Basant Utsav, Rangpanchami, etc but regardless of which name it is known by, it is celebrated with equal joy and merriment throughout the country.

Holi is eagerly waited for its main ritual - applying colors on loved ones. Among few customs that are intrinsic to Holi celebrations, wearing white Holi clothes is as important to Holi celebrations as are the colors or gulal. There is a very simple reason behind this tradition of wearing white Holi Clothes. Ethnic Indian clothes in white or other light shades are mainly worn by people so that all the Holi colors are visible on it. Holi is a fashion statement for men to wear Kurta Pajama on Holi. Cotton Kurta pajamas or Churidar Kurtas in shades of white, ivory, cream, beige, etc. are indeed essential for Holi. Every Indian festival as its own unique dress code and the same applies to Holi as well. White clothes are the fashion statements for the festival of Holi. Most women choose a white Salwar Kameez or white Churidar Suit over Sarees to wear while celebrating Holi. At the same time, quite a few women opt for white Sarees too. Even though not a very prevalent trend, it's also a practice to gift white clothes to near and dear ones on the occasion of Holi. Since white clothes on Holi are meant for one-time wear, nothing ornate or gorgeous is picked for obvious reasons. Plain and simple white cotton Kurta Pajama or Churidar Kurtas in cheaper varieties of silk are preferred for men while women stick to white cotton Salwar Kameez, white chikan Salwar Suit, white cotton Churidar Suit, etc. The tradition of white clothes on Holi, which began for simple and practical reasons, has evolved into almost a fashion statement today.
