CAT Exam 2020

Every year more than two lakh students appear for Common Admission Test exam, popularly known as CAT exam. CAT 2020 exam will be your gateway to 20 IIMs. It is interesting to note that almost all top b-schools accept the CAT score.

CAT Exam Dates

1. CAT 2020 notification should be out in July 2020. Every year the CAT exam is conducted by any one of the (older) IIMs. IIM Kozhikode was the convenor of CAT 2019 exam.
2. CAT registration begins in August and ends in September
3. CAT 2020 admit card should be available for download in last week of Oct 2020.
4. CAT exam is conducted on the last Sunday of November 2020. CAT 2019 was held on 24^th Nov 2019 in two slots.

CAT Eligibility

1. Bachelor’s degree in any discipline.
2. Minimum 50% CGPA or equivalent or 45% for SC and ST category students.
3. Final year students can also apply.
4. Note: The eligibility is verified by respective CAT participating colleges including IIMs.

There is reservation of seats as per legal requirements set by the Government of India:

1. Scheduled Caste (SC) candidates – 15%
2. Scheduled Tribe (ST) candidates – 7.5%
3. Other Backward Classes candidates [“Non-Creamy” layer (NC-OBC)] - 27%
4. Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) candidates – 10%
5. Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwD) - 5%

CAT Registration and Application Form

1. Candidates must fill the online application form for CAT 2020 after completing CAT 2020 registration.
2. Register online to get unique ID and password.
3. Enter DOB, email address, country, and mobile number. Click on ‘Generate OTP’ and complete CAT 2020 registration.
4. Fill in the online application form by logging in using the ID and password.
5. The application form requires information in following areas:
1. Personal Details
2. Academic Qualifications
3. Work Experience
4. Programmes
5. Test City – choose any four cities under preference
6. Payment
6. The CAT registration fee is:
1. INR 950 – SC, ST and PwD category candidates
2. INR 1900 – Other categories of candidates.

CAT Exam Pattern

1. CAT 2020 exam will have three sections –
1. Verbal Ability & Reading Comprehension
2. Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning
3. Quantitative Ability
2. The total exam duration is 3 hours or 180 minutes. Each section is individually timed for 60 minutes
3. The total number of questions are 100 and sectional breakup is:
1. VARC – 34
2. DILR – 32
3. QA – 34
4. CAT 2020 has a mix of MCQs and non-MCQs:
1. MCQs – 75 (approx.)
2. TITA or Non-MCQs – 25 (approx.)
5. The marking scheme for CAT 2020 is:
1. MCQs Correct Answer: +3
2. MCQs Incorrect Answer: -1
3. Non-MCQs Correct Answer: +3
4. Non-MCQs Incorrect Answer: 0
5. There is no negative marking for non-MCQs or TITA questions.

CAT Test Centres

CAT exam is conducted across 156 test cities in India. Candidates can choose up to 4 test cities while filling the online application form.
