This year’s theme is “Flight Plan for the Future” and is being held on Saturday, June 15, 2013 from 8:00 A.M. until 3:00 P.M. The Open House takes place at the Carson City Airport, 2600 College Parkway, Carson City, Nevada. Over 4,000 visitors attended in 2012, and this year’s event, which is free to the public, is expected to be even more exciting and popular. This year’s theme is focused on robotics, aviation and aerospace. Join the Challenger Learning Center for simulated space missions in the Advanced Spaceflight Laboratory and tour the universe in the mobile planetarium. Also, experience robotics and radio controlled demonstrations.

The open house event kicks off at 8:00 A.M. with a pancake breakfast provided by Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA). Especially exciting this year, the EAA-Young Eagles program will be providing free plane rides for children from 9 A.M. until 1 P.M., weather permitting. Flybys begin at 9:30 A.M. and include sky divers and an exhilarating field of planes: P51 Mustang, Army Lakota, War Birds, T6 Texan, T33 Shooting Star, F86 Sabre Jet, UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter and much more. Planes/helicopters will be landing at the airport for public viewing. The full host of events includes hot air balloon and plane rides, a bouncy house, face painting, paper airplane contests, various aircraft, food and drink vendors, as well as performances from local dance, tumbling and martial arts studios. Visitors can also shoot a machine gun (simulated).

“Our 2013 Open House will focus on the future of aviation and aerospace. The Carson City Airport is fortunate to be surrounded by numerous aviation and aerospace focused organizations, companies and manufacturers that have a keen interest in promoting and supporting the future of these industries. These companies are dedicated to expanding education and lifelong learning opportunities in the aviation and aerospace fields. The success of these companies has significant and direct economic impact on Carson City. The open house exhibits and activities are a fantastic opportunity for residents to learn more about aviation and aerospace. Carson City Airport is proud to offer such an outstanding, free event to our community. We encourage everyone to participate in this year’s event--Flight Plan for the Future,” said Tim Rowe, Carson City Airport’s General Manager.

The purpose of the Carson City Airport Open House is to raise community awareness of the importance of aviation and aerospace for Carson City and Nevada’s economy. The economic impact of the airport to the local community is estimated at over $30 million annually. Additionally, this year’s event will focus on educating our young people in the areas of robotics, aviation and aerospace.
