Caring for your pattern imprinted concrete driveway

If you want to keep your pattern imprinted concrete driveway in an immaculate condition for a long time, then you should consider sealing it with multiple coatings of a UV resistant, solvent-based sealer containing a high percentage of solids. The sealer's primary function is to help cure, seal, and dust proof your exterior concrete surface. It will hold off dust, dirt, and other materials that are likely to encourage the growth of mould and mildew on your concrete driveway. Basic care is as demonstrated below:

·         If you notice white, splotchy patches on your concrete, especially after it rains, the sealer is doing its job. This is the dirt and dust stated above. Rinsing your concrete with a water hose and then drying it with a leaf blower to remove excess water will fix this.

·         If there are spills and stains on your pattern imprinted concrete driveway, use a mild liquid soap in some warm water to weaken their appearance. Rinse the surface with the water hose, then use the leaf blower and your driveway will be clean again.

·         If there are potted plants in your driveway, it is recommended that they have a saucer under them to catch excess water; particularly if you use a good deal of fertilizer on your plants. In addition, you should not use doormats with rubber backings, as the rubber is likely to be soaked up by the sealer and will result in a stubborn stain on your stamped concrete driveway.

·         Your pattern imprinted concrete driveway should be resealed from time-to-time. It is recommended that you reseal your patio every four to six months after the initial seal, then after every two or three years. How often your driveway needs to be resealed is going to be dependent upon the amount of traffic, rain, and sunlight its surface receives.

If you notice that water does not bead up on or looks like it is being absorbed into the concrete surface, it may be time to seal off the surface with a high-quality concrete driveway sealer again. If you wait too long, you may start catching sight of the colour fading to a certain extent. Even if the colour does become pale, resealing your stamped concrete will make your driveway look vibrant again.
