Caregiver's duties and responsibilities vary depending on the situation. You may find yourself caring for an elderly parent, a child with special needs, or you may be a full-time caregiver to someone with severe disabilities. While many children live on their own, others live in foster homes where a CNA is present to help them with basic needs. A CNA is also responsible for following state and federal guidelines regarding immunizations and substance abuse screenings. Becoming a caregiver can give you access to a variety of health care services, including day care, emergency transportation, in home support services, and prescription drugs. Many people who have chosen this career also find great satisfaction in being able to better care for a loved one who may be experiencing medical challenges or emotional issues.

Those who work in the nursing home setting will be required to meet a number of responsibilities, including preparing meals, bathing and dressing patients, administering medications, and helping with toileting. If you're planning on working in a long term care facility or other facility where you will be providing ongoing services to patients, you will need to complete a certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) training program in order to become a caregiver. Caregivers can help those who are unable to care for themselves by assisting them in the many daily tasks that they are physically unable to do. Caregivers have an important role to play in patient care and need to be properly trained in order to help those in need.
