Career Oriented Courses After Class 12 Commerce

Class 12 has always been looked at as a critical time in a student’s life. At the crux of stepping out into the world, the final year of school is also a time to consider options for higher studies that could play a crucial role. This is when they start gearing up for the life beyond the protected bubble they currently reside in and seriously consider higher studies options that could support their ambitions and propel their career forward. The commerce stream usually opted for by those with an aptitude for number crunching and sharp analytical skills, broadens your scope with the multitude of options available post Class 12.

There are general honours courses like B.Com but career-oriented courses are also finding many takers in today’s time. These courses blend theoretical knowledge with exposure to case studies and project work that exposes the students to practical knowledge as well. The most popular courses post Class 12 commerce include:  

1. Bachelors in Business Administration (BBA):

This is an intense business administration course that grooms management aspirants to build a base in the different disciplines governing a business. You study and learn about different functional areas. With field visits and regular interaction with distinguished guest lecturers, you are exposed to a gamut of worldly knowledge about the corporate world that cannot be extracted from books. BBA in entrepreneurship is a new field of study that trains entrepreneurs in the making with more practical knowledge – a lovely pick for a course if you’re looking to start something of your own or join the family business to take it forward. 

2. Chartered Accountancy (CA): 

Along with BBA, Chartered Accountancy is a popular career choice commerce students aspire to follow after school. Qualifying as a Chartered Accountant opens up opportunities in different sectors. A financial officer, a tax consultant, an auditor, and advisor – roles you can take once you become a CA are aplenty. You may choose to start your own practice or join a firm that matches your needs. While the road to qualifying all the levels is challenging, nevertheless, the efforts are all worth it. 3. Bachelor of Law (LLB):

LLB a top drawer career choice for many also attracts many commerce students aspiring to be a corporate lawyer. Integrated course of 5 years is the most preferred option among aspirants, which they can take up on clearing their CLAT exams after Class 12. Else, you may also go for a classic 5 year LLB programme and specialize in corporate law with your masters’ degree. Being a lawyer is an extremely lucrative career option.

4. Company Secretary (CS):

A course provided by The Institute of Company Secretaries of India, CS is another lucrative option to take up. A company secretary acts as a company’s in-house legal expert; he or she is the one responsible for all regulatory compliances.  Many students who are pursuing other courses also pursue CS studies since it adds invaluable credit to their resume.
