Can You Find The Business You Are Looking For?

by Neville Dinning Grey Nomad Working Online In recent days I have been looking for local businesses to check out if they have a product or two that I have been researching and perhaps looking to buy.

Since I am now considered to be a senior citizen (ie retired from full time work) it is taking me some time to come to terms with all of the great tools that we now have to try and locate the store that might have what I want.

Ahhh! The Good Old Days.

In the the good old days, not so long ago, it would have been out with the Yellow Pages if I didn't know the name of the business, or the White Pages if I did. Then I could get an address. Often however I would rely on the local newspaper and scan the classified ads to try an find the business.

Then I discovered that I could use search engines to find the business I was looking for. That was OK as long as I did the research before leaving home, since I needed to use either my desktop computer, or my laptop even, since I don't tend to take that out with me in the car or on the bus.

Since I am also now travelling the older methods for finding a business are not so effective, and working out their locations can be tricky.

The Tools In Your Hand

But now, when I remember, I can use my iPhone to do the research for me. Yes, I can look like all those important business people in the cafe, sitting at the table with phone in hand, looking up where the nearest business I am looking for is located. And I will also probably have a map showing where it is and even directions for how to get there.

If You Remember To Use Them

The biggest problem? I just need to remember to use the phone!

Another potential problem is that the business may not have an online presence, in which case I will not be able to find it, or I will only have basic details that a local directory might have  gathered.

The need for an online presence for a business is becoming more crucial, and the business that ignores that trend is putting itself in peril of suffering the same fate as the dinosaur.
