Can Catering Companies Be Sustainable -Caiger& Co Catering

by Liz Seyi Digital marketing manager

If you’re unfamiliar with ethical, locally sourced catering, it may be easy to assume that catering companies can’t be sustainable.

When many of us think about catering, we are put in mind of lots of plastic containers, driving around catering vans, and food waste. This doesn’t need to be the case, however. Sustainable catering is the new frontier, and here at Caiger& Co, we know a thing or two about it.

Cutting down on plastic

Plastic pollution is a huge drain on our environment. Single-use plastic is fast becoming one of the most pressing environmental challenges, and one which holds devastating consequences for our planet, its people, and our wildlife.

It can be difficult to avoid plastic when working in the catering industry, but we try our best. We discourage the use of straws at events we cater, we avoid anything in a plastic bottle, and we prioritise glass and cans wherever possible. We work with our clients to make events as plastic-free as possible.

Limiting food waste

Bespoke catering services mean that you can focus on feeding an exact amount of people the right amount of food. We encourage clients to think carefully about their guest list, various dietary requirements, how much they think people will eat, and the level of potential guest drop out that they envision.

We also recycle, use a food waste bin, and plan our menus around other events we’re catering, in order to make smart and sustainable choices.

Exploring meat-free options

Don’t underestimate the impact of the meat and dairy industries on the planet. Reducing our consumption of these foods can be the biggest individual impact we can make when it comes to lowering our carbon footprint.

At Caiger& Co, we offer vegan catering in the London region. Our menus are crafted alongside artisan suppliers and have sustainable and sustainable produce at their core. With dishes including Greek-style salad, wild mushroom risotto, and vegan chocolate mousse, there’s sure to be something tasty for everyone, regardless of whether your guests are plant-based.

Vegan menus are fast becoming the norm at a lot of large-scale events, so why not use this opportunity to become forward-thinking and planet-conscious?
