Broken Appliance? Choosing between New, Refurbished or Repair

by Kevin Smith Author

When your appliances break down, you have 3 options. You can replace them with new appliances, replace them with refurbished appliances, or repair them. Which of these is best for you depends on what you want to get out the money you have to spend. Your home and its appliances are important to you. However, your choice depends on several factors.

New Appliances

New appliances usually require more money upfront then the other 2 options. They are more expensive, but will have a warranty protecting you from future problems with the appliance. They will also usually be more energy efficient than the model you're replacing, which will save you money in the long run on your energy bills. That's also helpful for the environment. You can expect that your next new appliance will last years longer than a refurbished or repaired appliance. Some companies may offer payment plans so that the cost can be spread over a longer period of time.

Refurbished Appliances

Many refurbished appliances will have a warranty from the company that did the refurbishing. This warranty probably won't be as long as a new appliance's, but it will protect you from problems in the near future. Refurbished appliances are usually more environmentally friendly than newer models because of the amount of energy it takes to make something new. They may or may not be more efficient than the model you are replacing. Because they cost less than new appliances, this is the smart choice for anyone who is on a budget and needs to replace an old appliance.

Repaired Appliances

Electrical appliance repair in Montgomery, TX, is often the best for your pocketbook and for the environment. Repairs are usually less expensive than replacements, and you don't have to go through the trouble of finding someone to deliver the new appliance and take away the old. A repair uses fewer resources than a refurbishment or new appliance, which makes it better for the environment. Perhaps the best part of a repair is that you know how the appliance works, and you're comfortable with it. Many people don't like change, even if it means a new fridge, oven, or washer are in the offer. If your appliance can be repaired, you may find it in your best interest to do so. If it cannot, using one of the above 2 options will probably be determined by your finances and your interest in the environment.
