Blue screen when Windows PC starts

Fatal errors, sometimes also referred to as a blue screen or black screen, can occur if a serious problem causes Windows 7 to shut down or restart unexpectedly. A message may appear explaining that "Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to the computer ".

These errors can be caused indiscriminately by hardware or software problems and it can be difficult to identify the cause. The tools and methods shown below may be useful for making Windows operational again.

These tools and methods are useful for returning the system to a previous state and verifying that the latest updates are installed on the computer.

Undoing recent changes via System Restore

First, it may be useful to try using System Restore. In fact, this tool can undo recent changes to computer system files that may be causing the problem. System Restore does not affect personal files, such as e-mail messages, documents or photos. For more information, see What is System Restore?

To open System Restore

·         To open System Restore, click on the Start button. In the search box type Reset system configuration and then in the results list click System Restore. If prompted, provide an administrator password or confirmation.

·         Follow the instructions on the screen.

·         Some errors could be caused by problems with your computer's hard disk or RAM, rather than problems with Windows or other software running on your computer. Windows 7 includes a number of tools to identify and correct certain types of hardware errors.  In the event of serious errors, you may need to contact the manufacturer of the hardware component for assistance.
