Beware of Water That Contains Arsenic

by Eureka Forbes Home Appliance Providers

India has at least a couple of hundred million people affected by water contaminated by arsenic, which is a slow poison. It becomes imperative in such a scenario to use a water filtration system, specifically a water purifier to steer clear of health hazards.

Hazards of arsenic contamination

Arsenic is present in groundwater and when you use water that is not purified, it could seep into the food we consume. Arsenic contamination not only affects the skin but also causes cancer, diabetes and cardiovascular problems. It is also said to affect the digestive system, leading to diarrhoea, vomiting, cramps and in some extreme situations, could be fatal. The presence of arsenic in water and food can also have an impact on a new-born child’s health and also, in many cases, in the womb, during pregnancy. It can affect cognitive learning and memory as well.

The World Health Organization says the permissible limit of arsenic in drinking water should be 0.01mg/l, but it is much higher in many countries including India. So, the best solution is to get yourself a water purifier and invest in your own health.

What water purifier to buy?

A good water filtration system such as an RO water purifier will help you tackle arsenic contamination. Reverse osmosis or RO is one of the best methods of purification if you live in a neighbourhood where the water source has a high level of total dissolved solids. Reverse osmosis is a method in which water is forced through a membrane. The membrane has pores that are microscopic and can trap arsenic and other contaminants like lead.
