Best wedding styles to wear your lungi

by Vikram Sharma Textile designer

If you want to see how the lungi can be used to depict exquisite beauty, you should go to a wedding in southern India where the cotton lungi is traditional attire.

There are several styles of lungis that you can wear as a guest or as a groom at a traditional Indian wedding.

The majority of states in southern India wear white lungis adorned with gold. This makes it look really nice.

In this article, we'll look at the most fashionable lungi styles that you can wear to stand out at any wedding ceremony.

Lungi with Zari Embroidered Shirt

Because gold is considered the metal of the gods, it plays an important role in the wedding ceremony, particularly in the groom's attire.

In Kerala, the groom's traditional attire is a mundu or lungi, often with a gold casava border. A folded melmundu cloth can also be carried on the groom's shoulder. Grooms are no longer required to go bare-chested, as they now wear different shirts. Wearing a Zari embroidered shirt with a lungi adds a touch of elegance to the simplicity of the lungi.

Prince Coat on Lungi

Many people prefer a prince coat because it is a fashionable way to dress. The prince coat gives the wearer the appearance and feel of royalty. It is a structured and well-tailored coat that can be worn by anyone. Most people pair it with a lungi to look neat and polished. You can also add a rose pin or a pocket square to make it look even more refined. If you want to go all out, you can add a matching colour melmundu to balance out the traditional look.

Kurta and Lungi

The kurta is a loose collarless shirt worn with a lungi. For a different look, some people prefer to wear a kurta instead of a melmundu or bare-chested style. The kurta looks great with a lungi for any occasion, but it's especially lovely for weddings. Wear a simple cotton kurta or a silk kurta. In terms of colours, a lungi in white or cream will suffice. It can be designed in a variety of ways, with varying lengths and structures. The best thing about this look is that the printed lungi and kurta are both simple garments that give you a classic and traditional look. You can add a few personal touches to this look if you are creative.

Formal Shirt on a Lungi

If you don't want to wear a kurta, prince coat, or a Zari embroidered shirt with your mundu, you can wear a formal shirt instead. Formal shirts are becoming increasingly popular on mundu because youths enjoy wearing them.

Wear a shirt that matches the colour of your bride's trousseau to coordinate your outfits. Wear a simple cotton long-sleeved shirt with a white lungi embroidered with gold. Fold the shirt to your forearms to give your outfit a vibrant traditional look if you want to spice it up.

The mundu worn by the groom is similar to the female Kasavu type saree with gold embroidery known as Kara. To look neat, the mundu must be neatly pleated and properly wrapped around the waist. It is both comfortable and fashionable. Any of the above styles will undoubtedly make you stand out. Lungi is a simple material, but when combined with the right outfit, it can do a lot. You can also dress it up with a few accessories to make it more fashionable.

The Groomsmen

The groomsmen are not required to wear a mundu, but the majority of them do. The groomsmen's attire is usually decided upon by themselves and the groom. Groomsmen can also wear a lungi, even if they are unfamiliar with the tradition of wearing a lungi. They can wear plain cotton mundu and a red or white shirt.

The groomsmen's attire should match the groom's. Just as the chief bridesmaid's gown should match the bridesmaid's gown, the bridesmaid's gown should match the bridesmaid's gown. For a more fashionable look, the groomsmen can add sunglasses or other fashion accessories to their attire. To avoid tripping over while dancing and enjoying the wedding, you must pay special attention to how you wrap the mundu. You can use the same steps to tie the mundu as you did for the lungi.

As a wedding guest

In the lungi craze, wedding guests are not left out. Designers have begun to create various styles from which people can choose. In fact, keeping up with the latest trends is becoming increasingly difficult, but men are more than willing to experiment with the various ways to wear a lungi in fashion. If you don't want to deal with the stress of draping a lungi or don't know-how, there are now pre-draped lungis available.

Wearing a half jacket, a short kurta, or a denim jacket with the lungi is a more modern way to stand out among the other guests. This demonstrates your versatile sense of fashion and your ability to keep up with current trends.

Wearing The Mundu in Kerala style

The mundu is worn differently in Kerala than in other parts of the country. The lungi is tucked around the waist in the correct direction here. The bottom half of the handloom lungi is then pulled and brought to the back to tie around the waist. This style is comfortable and allows you to move freely without fear of tripping. It is also worn by women in Kerala, and it is very colourful and has various designs.

Wearing The Lungi in Tamil style

In Tamil Nadu, only men wear the lungi, whereas, in other places, such as Kerala, women do as well. Tamil Nadu's lungi-tying technique differs from that of Kerala. In Tamil Nadu, Lungi is also known as Kailis. The lungi is worn on the right side of the waist, whereas the kailis is worn on the left side. Most Muslims in Tamil Nadu wear a mundu to formal occasions such as weddings. It is primarily worn for informal or casual occasions, particularly as nightwear due to its soft and comfortable feel. Checkered patterned lungis are a popular choice among Tamil Nadu residents.

Clothing is an important part of our cultural heritage, and it allows us to express ourselves. Without a doubt, the lungi is a beautiful traditional attire for men to wear on special occasions, and it is also worn by women and children on occasion. Now that you know how to dress for the occasion, you should choose a mundu if you want to look simple yet stunning.
