Follicular unit transplantation - FUT

This is the oldest and traditional method of transplanting hair. It is also called strip method. In this method, a strip is removed from the donor site and tested in the laboratory. A strip usually contains 2000 to 2500 hair follicles and a follicle has 2 to 3 hairs. The hair follicles are then transferred to the bald part of the body (the reciprocal site). In this process, the follicular unit extraction process causes more pain and the scalp marks are covered with hair. In this technique, there is no loss of hair grafts and hair harvesting takes less time. Hair also comes with more density with this technique.

Follicular unit extraction - FUE

In this method of hair transplant the surgeon extracts healthy follicles one by one from the back of the head. Healthy hair follicles are transferred from the donor site to the bald portion of the body - motorized punch process at the recipients site. This process requires more than one sitting and 2000-3000 follicles are placed in one sitting. This process takes more time. Follicular unit extraction surgery involves no stitches and stitches and the pain is less than in follicular unit transplantation.

In this process, the donor site returns to normal within 7 to 10 days and new hairs appear. This process results in healthy and fine hair after surgery and these procedures are considered better for both men and women.

Micrografts and Minigrafts

In both micrografts and minigrafts, the hair-bearing tissue part is prepared for transplanting hair. Surgeons remove the strip from the skin of hair follicles from the scalp of the donor site and attach it to the part of the body where there is baldness or less hair. These grafts are inserted directly into the holes already made from the donor site to the recipe site. Strip surgeries are performed in both micrograph and minigraph procedures. Micrografts have a full pair of hair whereas minigrafts have only three-fold hair.
