Best Ear Buds

by Daniel L. Williams Article

Fashion and music go way back and today they are more thoroughly intertwined than ever. Both are about art and self-expression and both are a tremendous part of our everyday lives. On the artistic side, more and more fashion designers are collaborating with musicians to create the perfect blend of live music experience and fashion show. The music and the fashion feed into and off of one another, creating an entirely new and unique art experience. The lines between fashion and music also have been blurred by models becoming musicians and musicians becoming models or designers. On the self-expression side, what we wear and what we listen to often are very closely related both in form and function. Not only does our personal style reflect our taste in both music and fashion but our fashion goes as far as accommodating the devices we listen to music on. Hoodies, jackets and workout clothes now have openings to thread ear buds through as well as special pockets for our MP3 players. It used to be headphones were bulky contraptions that made the wearer look like a space cadet. Today's models are small, sleek and better than ever. Read on for a list of the best of the best.

Westone 2 True-Fit. This is one of the most expensive things you'll stick in your ear at around $330 but the investment is worth it. You get fantastic sound quality as well as durability. The durability comes in part from the braided design of the cord. The Westone 2 offers a variety of ear tips, making a secure and comfortable fit fairly easy to achieve. Each ear bud has two balanced armature drivers which means high quality at both low and high frequencies. You can get a pair at Amazon.com.

Beats by Dre Tour In-Ear Headphones. At a much more reasonable $130, these ear buds offer both sound and style. Easily one of the most stylish things you'll stick in your ear, the Beats By Dre buds offer a unique, fashion-forward design with flattened, disc-shaped ear buds with the lowercase "b" logo on proud display. The cord is flat and thick, making it just as durable as it is fashionable. These ear buds do well with hip hop and dance music, and are available as part of the Jimmy Jazz urban fashion collection at JimmyJazz.com.

Panasonic ErgoFit RP-HJE120-D. It's a mouthful but at less than $10, it's a bargain basement shopper's dream. Not only do they deliver quality sound but they are actually as comfortable as the "ErgoFit" name implies. The ear buds include three sizes of silicone eartips so you can get a tight seal and good sound isolation. They also come in a variety of pretty colors. The downside is the cord isn't all that durable but for under $10, that shouldn't be a surprise or a big deal. If you're super heavy into bass, you might want to go for a slightly less budget pair but they do well with most types of music. You buy a pair at Amazon.com or at Sears.

Klipsch Image S4A for Android. You'll pay anywhere from about $60 to $100 for these Android ear buds but your ears will thank you. Klipsch regularly tops CNET's list of best ear buds due to both sound quality and comfort. They do an amazing job of blocking ambient noise and deliver top-notch dynamic range and vibrancy. The only downside is a cord that tends to tangle but if you can avoid wadding them up in your pocket, you can mostly avoid that issue. You can find these ear buds on eBay or at Amazon.com.
