BESPOKE SUITS: GUIDE FOR STARTERS.

by Prakash Ravi Digital Marketing Executive

INTRODUCTION:

Bespoke suits are often misunderstood as made to measure shirts.Bespoke clothing is traditionally cut from a pattern drafted from scratch for the customer, and so differs from ready to wear, which is factory made in finished condition and standardized sizes. In simple terms, bespoke shirts are tailored just for you from scratch.

For men who are new to suits and tuxes, bespoke suits are the best way to start and you will have a great experience.

Always tell your requirements clearly to your tailor from the event that you are going to attend to your preferences, so that the tailor can understand your expectations clearly and provide you the suit that meets your satisfaction.

In true bespoke, the pattern maker will create this pattern (by hand) on light, semi-transparent paper. In some cases (depending on the skill of the pattern maker) the pattern is actually drawn freehand (called rock-of-eye).

Also, ask suggestions from your tailor on a pattern, fabric, style and add-on accessories that will make you look good. Don’t be afraid to explore and try new styles. You might turn out to be stunning.

But be cautious and don’t get too much into the details if you are a newbie. By doing that, you might get too excited and mislead. So always keep the theme and purpose of the event in your mind.

The making of a bespoke shirt can involve a lot of handworks but not always. In some cases, collars are made by hand or attached to the shirt by hand.

Sleeves may be attached by hand or buttonholes crafted by hand. In rare cases, tailors will offer a fully handmade shirt while others will do most stitching by machine, especially the long seams down the sides of the shirt and sleeves. It depends on the tailor and your preferences.

As mentioned previously, the pattern itself is likely to hand-drawn vs. electronically printed.

The best part is that you can customize everything from buttons to cuffs to collar. If you are a person who loves to add some twist and try new trends, then bespoke suits are a perfect choice. You can choose steel, plastic buttons or the cuffs can be altered to your liking.

There is an intermediate stage in the process called try-on. Before getting the finished product, try on your shirt and test it. Some bespoke tailors will create a shirt just for trying it on with an inexpensive cloth before moving on to the finalized shirt. During that try-on phase, you can make note of things that you wish to alter and they will be changed when working on the real piece. So, there is always time for alterations.

CONCLUSION:

Yes, bespoke suits can be expensive but they are totally worth it as they are very good in quality and will last longer than any other sources that you get your shirts from. Also, they are easy to maintain and they never fail to disappoint you when you are in dire need to select an attire for an event.
