Becoming a Fire Watch Guard

by John Smith Learner

Firefighters play a key role in keeping residents of large buildings safe. The local government code may specify when, where and how many Firefighters are needed in a building. If there is a fire alarm, sprinkler or standpipe not working in New York City, a security guard must be present to perform the duties of observing firefighters. New York City requires Fire Guards to be trained and licensed to operate residential or commercial buildings.

Fire Watch Guards are also required by law to safely operate most construction sites where open flames are used.

At least one Fire Guard is needed in public places, such as shelters, movie theaters, hotels, office buildings and water baths where there is no spraying system or fire protection system in place. Fireguard-trained guards are much needed than those who have not undergone security training of Fire Watch Services.

Minimum Fire Requirements

You must be at least 18 years old.

You must have a good understanding of the English language.

You must provide two types of identification. At least one of them must be a government-issued photo ID, such as a Government Driver's License or Non-Driver's License or passport.
