The name “Optometry” comes from a Greek words opsis. It means “view” & metron that means “something used to measure”. The historical backdrop of optometry can be followed back to the earlier studies on the optics and image formation by the eye. Optometry appeared in book “A Treatise on the Eye: The Manner and Phenomena of Vision” that was written in 1759 by Scottish physician William Porterfield. Optometry is one of  a satisfying career in medical courses in various ways. Optometry is a dynamic and challenging career, and it offers self-awareness, work flexibility, community respect, money related achievement & unlimited opportunities. A career in optometry offers an high salary, job stability, tremendous potential for development and a decent work environment.
Career Opportunities After B Sc Optometry
Employment of optometrists is projected to grow 18 percent from 2020, across both Private and Government sectors, much faster than the average for all other occupations as vision problems tend to occur more frequently as the aging population will lead to demand for more optometrists. Major areas of employment are:–
Eye clinics, Optician showrooms, Contact lens & ophthalmic lens industry, Health consultancies, Hospital eye departments, Lens manufacturing units, Multinational companies dealing with eye care products, Eye research centers,
Ophthalmologists in hospitals or clinics, overseas opportunities etc.
