Then of course you have to remove the old carpet, so let’s put down 40 cents per square foot for that.  Adding padding will cost you around 65 cents per square foot. When thinking of it per square foot, sounds cheap.  But it adds up.

All told, you’re looking at almost $1100, tax included. It’s a chunk of change, and that’s just for two rooms. How about instead, you just keep the maintenance up on the carpet you have now. If you do, it might even outlast you.
