Now that I’m done with my graduation from one of the best universities of Kolkata named the Sister Nivedita University, I’d like to share my experiences of choosing one such university. The foremost challenge of the process of a university application is deciding the university where you’ll apply.

While these days, it is certainly possible to select your universities in a random process, you can also spend several months deciding on the best options. Either way, when you’re looking for the best university in Kolkata, you’d need help. Here are few things to keep in mind.

Since you’ll be spending the next 3-6 years studying that same subject and working for the next 50 years on that subject, you should be watchful about it. I did my homework right and Google was my best friend during that phase of my life.

As soon as I began to search for universities, I checked the major ranking tables and computed the averages. There are some that will offer you general rankings and others will have different tables for every subject. When I chose, the most vital information for me was the ratio between the students and staff. The lower is the ratio, the better. When you are in smaller classes, you get to ask more questions and gain more attention.

For graduation students, one of the most vital things in the library. During graduation, you have to spend a certain amount of your life inside the library and hence this place should be checked before admission. One more good point to check is whether or not there is a 24/7 cafe where the night owls and early birds can spend their time.

ü Check on the content of the course

How are you supposed to check on the content of the course? Well, that is possible by checking on the university website. In case you find an area that interests you particularly, check if the university offers that on its list of subjects. On the other hand, you can contact the university and ask the details and make them answer your questions.

ü Know more about student accommodation

When you’re starting a university, regardless of whether you’ll be leaving your family or not, you should always check the accommodation facilities of the college. Hence, you should make sure that the accommodation you live in is friendly and nice. This should be a place that you can call ‘home’ as you’ll be spending enough time there. I learned how to cook, how to wash my clothes, and how to clean the kitchen before I thought of booking my university accommodation. You needn’t worry about the floor-mates and flat-mates.

ü See what societies and sports are offered by the university

Are you involved in any type of sports like football or cricket? Or are you someone who loves playing poker? If answered yes, you have to watch out for clubs and societies in the university to ensure there’s something that can match your preferences. The majority of the universities these days offer the largest variety of extra-curricular activities and it is vital to check these too. You can’t forget that university life is only about studying.
