Android Rooting - Should You Go For It?

by Filip Danic Entrepreneur
By default you do not have root access to your Android device. "Root" actually means that you are the super user (a term from the Linux kernel) which something like admin user from Windows. To have a root access would give you total control over the functionality of you phone. This allows you to overcome the limitation that your carrier has provided you with once you purchased your device from them. This would allow you to:

  • Change the boot animation
  • Delete default application that your carrier has included
  • Optimize the device for faster performance
  • Update your operating system
  • Install various cool modifications
  • Unlock your phone so that it can be used my multiple carriers

And much, much more! All Android developers root their devices as it allows them to test their applications to a far greater degree. Advanced users can certainly accomplish a lot with an Android Root and this is why they can take the risk. The risk? Why, yes, there is a of course a risk and this is why this is something that is not recommended for the average user.

If you fail to root your phone you could end up bricking it and losing your warranty! Even though there a lot of guides and tutorials on the Internet sometimes it just isn't the best idea to do something like this if you aren't sure what you are doing. Really, if you don't know what you have to gain by doing the root, then you are probably not somebody who will need it or know how to use.

However, rooting still remains a very powerful thing to do as it allows you to install Android OS updates manually instead of waiting for a carrier version which comes out months after the official release. Just to show an example - Android Jelly Bean  update is yet to arrive on many carriers, yet Android Key lime Pie is already about to get released! Crazy huh?

So, measure what you have to gain and if is worth the risk and then go on your rooting journey! The website called DigiTech Panda has many useful guides that are worth checking out!
