It most commonly affects the long bones that make up the arms and legs but it can begin in any bone in the body. Several types of it exist. Risk factors:

It's not clear what causes it, but doctors have found certain factors that are associated with an increased risk. The factors are:

• Inherited genetic syndromes. Certain rare genetic syndromes passed through families increase the risk of it, including hereditary retinoblastoma and Li-Fraumeni syndrome.

• Paget's disease of bone. This precancerous condition that affects older adults increases the risk of it.

• Radiation therapy for cancer. Large doses of radiation exposure, such as those given during radiation therapy for cancer, increase the risk of it in the future.

Treatment:

The treatment options for it are based on the type of cancer you have, your overall health, the stage of the cancer, and your preference.

•Surgery

The goal of surgery is to remove the entire bone cancer. To achieve this, doctors remove the tumor and a small portion of healthy tissue that surrounds it

•Radiation therapy

Radiation therapy may be used in people with it that can't be removed with surgery. It may also be used post-surgery to kill any cancer cells that may be left behind. Radiation therapy may help control signs and symptoms, such as pain for people with advanced bone cancer.

•Chemotherapy

Chemotherapy combined with radiation therapy or alone is often used before surgery to shrink it to a more manageable size that allows the surgeon to perform a limb-sparing surgery. It may also be used in people with this cancer that has spread beyond the bone to other areas of the body.
