All about Nigerian Music and the changing trends of latest Nigeria Music

The music of Nigeria is quite popular and it includes different types of music and folk among which some of them are renowned worldwide. The country played a great role in developing different types of music – various genres including Afrobeat, Palm Wine Music, West African Highlife & African Music. It is basically the fusion of native rhythms with different techniques which are taken from Cuba, Brazil, Congo, Jamaica and other parts of the world.  Most of the 20th century Nigerian Musicians were known for blending the cultural elements of indigenous music with American Soul and Jazz which forms hip hop music. The famous Nigerian multi-instrumentalist, musician and composer – Fela Kuti, was very famous for Afrobeat and was known as the pioneer of Afrobeat Music Genre. Other genres famous in Nigeria those times were

·         JuJu music (it was traditional music fused with Yoruba Nation)

·         Fuji music (Was created by Fiji and was a Yoruba percussion style )

·         Afan Music (Created by Umuobuarie Igberaese, a famous poet and musician)

·         Kennis Music ( Top ranked record label in Africa)

Talking about the latest Nigeria Music, it has seen a paradigm shift and people now prefer rap music and hip hop, which is not only in demand there but famous across the globe. In 2008’s November, Nigeria's music scene happen to get an international recognition and attention when first African music awards show was hosted by MTV in Abuja.

Nollywood – the so called Nigerian video-film industry is now the second largest movies producer in the world. Most of the Nigerian Film Studios are located in Lagos and Enugu which boosted the economy of these cities. Nigerian Cinema is of course the largest industry in Africa in revenue and movies produced.  Nollywood started producing films since 1960’s but advanced of technology in last two decades has boosted this industry with a boom. Demand of Latest Nigeria Songs and Movies are very high in world market these days. 

Nigerian Folk Music Styles is related from different ethnic groups in the country and each of them has their own styles, techniques, instruments and songs. The largest ethnic groups of Nigeria are Yoroba, Igbo and Hausa, etc and they all have developed their different music styles based on their choice and preferences. Their traditional music is almost similar throughout Africa and majority of them are performed in rituals like wedding or funeral so they are not for entertainment or enjoyment. People of Nigeria are very fond of music and most of them play instruments for their amusement though now they are in majority as professionals in music industry since the Nollywood has seen a boost across the globe. Music is also an integral part of their culture and lifestyle and music also very closely linked with agriculture. Music is played in different parts when it is the growing season for the crops.
