Types of Acne Scars

Acne scars are of various kinds. Some scars heal gradually with the passage of time while some varieties leave permanent marks. To name a few are

    Skin discoloration

    Macules

    Loss of tissue

    Tissue scars

Skin Discoloration- A healed scar sometimes results in discoloration of the skin. The effects can remain visible for months after an acne wound has healed.

Macules- Macules are characterized by red, flat spots where an acne injury was located. Macules persist for a number of weeks and fade gradually.

Loss of Tissue- Loss of tissue results in the formation of acne scars. These scars appear sunken and look like pits in skin.

Tissue Scars- Some acnes leave scars that appear as raised growth of tissue. These scars are formed when the collagen is produced in the skin in excess.

Acne Scar Removal Options

Some people are emotionally affected when scars develop on their faces. Some acne scars created severe disfiguring effects. Therefore, people opt for removing scars in order to restore the appearance of the skin. If you have to grin most of the time due to scars, you should visit a dermatologist who can suggest you with right kind of treatment.

Acne Scar Removal Treatments

Scars no doubt look annoying. However, there are treatments to remove them effectively. Some of these treatments would be:

Dermabrasion- In the case of dermabrasion treatment, a high-speed brush or similar instrument is used for resurfacing the skin by removing or reducing the depth of the scar. The healing requires a few days.

Micro Dermabrasion- Micro Dermabrasion treatment is deployed when the scars are small. The therapist uses a spray containing small crystals instead of a high-speed brush. The spray when applied removes the surface skin. There is no downtime. A patient needs to appear for a few sessions in order to get the best result.

Chemical Peels-Chemical peels help at reducing the appearance of shallow acne scars. The dermatologist or the spa aesthetician administers chemical on the affected area in order to remove the outer layer of the skin. Once the outer layer of the skin is removed, the skin looks even and smooth. Peeling or redness of the skin may occur for a few days due to the acid used during the treatment.

Laser Treatment-Based on the scar condition, the dermatologist can deploy laser for removing the outer layer of the skin. The laser can lighten the redness around healed acne wounds or remove contour areas of acne scars. The type of laser is chosen after analyzing whether the scar is flat or raised. The treatment sessions are decided according to the type of scar. After the treatment, the treated areas require a few days to heal.

Medical/Surgical Procedures- There are other medical or surgical procedures also available for severe cases.

Acne scars make the appearance of the skin dull. Some scars fade with the passage of time. However, some scars leave permanent marks on the skin. Those stubborn scars can be treated with a suitable scar removal procedure.
