Taipei: The capital city of Taiwan houses some world-class cultural gems, both historical and modern. The most popular one is National Palace Museum featuring some of the world’s most remarkable pieces of Chinese art. It is currently home to about 700,000 exhibits including Ming Vases and ancient bronze creations. Some of the other highlights include an incredible collection of Tibetan Buddhist art and terracotta sculptures from the Qin Dynasty. Some of the other prominent attractions include Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall, Shilin Night Market, Taipei 101, Tianyuan Temple and Tamsui Old Street. Taroko Gorge: Take a scenic train-ride from Taipei to end up at Taroko Gorge, a natural marvel. From the entrance, head straight to the Eternal Spring Shrine. It is built in the commemoration of those who lost their lives building the Central Cross-Island Highway. The shrine also features a waterfall and a serene pavilion. Swallow Grotto is a long path of limestone and marble popular for its scenic views of the turquoise Liwu River. Tunnel of Nine Turns is another important attraction offering some stunning views of the white marble cliffs.
 
Taitung: This place has a very tranquil and laidback atmosphere. Nestled on the eastern coast of the country, it features some beautiful geological landscape. Go to Sansiantai Island, a natural gem offering majestic views of sunrise and sunset. You could also navigate to Siaoyeliou, a sculpture park featuring several rock formations.

Kaohsiung: Taiwan’s largest port, Kaohsiung features a remarkable array of pagodas and temples. Visitors can witness some exceptional tiger and dragon sculptures at the Dragon and Tiger Pagodas on Lotus Pond. The nearby Autumn and Spring pavilions are equally incredible. Dedicated to the God of Mercy and God of War, they feature a massive sculpture of the Mercy God riding a dragon.
 
Tainan: The municipality of Tainan has a long and vibrant history. It was the capital of Taiwan during the Qing era and served as the operation base for the Dutch East India Company. Highlights include Fort Anping and the Chihkan Towers. After taking a stroll through the manicured lawns of the towers, make sure to check out the Qing-Dynasty stone turtles. At Fort Anping, head to the museum and learn about the Dutch occupation.
  
Taichung: Make Eva Air reservations or Air China reservations and unwind in the pleasant weather of Taichung. During the Japanese colonial times, Taichung was an industrial hub and the manufacturing base of many Taiwanese products. The city attracts a lot of young travelers thanks to its buzzing nightlife. It is also a famed shopping destination with a large number of shopping malls.
