A Guide to Hydroponic Fruits and Vegetables

by Natures Miracle Hydroponic Vegetables and Fruits Farming In India
Nature is the biggest provider for humankind from shelter to food. We have exploited nature from need to greed and caused a wide destruction to its serenity. The amount of depletion is evident if we just look around us. In order to counter the harm caused by us, we have been in search for alternative and green solution. We started harnessing energy from wind, water and the sun, which are highly eco friendly and are pollution free alternatives. Similarly, in the food sector, we had introduced high yield variety seeds, GM crops etc. one innovation better than the older one. Now, we have hydroponics, a new breakthrough in farming.

Hydroponics is the soil less growing of plants with the help of a nutrient solution, grown inside a greenhouse facility. This method of farming has been found to be highly effective when compared with traditional farming. The climate controlled greenhouse facility protects the plant from unwanted pests and unpredictable climate which in turn eliminates the chances for using chemical pesticides. In hydroponic technique there is no water loss as the water is recycled and reused. Since hydroponics is done in a soil less method, it could be set up anywhere; be it in your backyard or in a whole acre of land.

Setting up a hydroponic facility for cultivating hydroponic fruits and vegetables on your own is not  rocket science. While choosing to explore hydroponics there are some things to keep in mind before you set it up. Depending on just a backyard cultivation or a fully fledged farming there are options like wick system, ebb & flow system, aeroponics, drip systems to name some. It’s advisable to do a research on the various systems before you decide on one because some of these systems are sophisticated and requires good financing and maintenance.

Hydroponic cucumber production is one of the most commonly cultivated produce using this technique. For a beginner, it’s advisable to start with a variety that grows easier and needs lesser maintenance. After one successful harvest, you can slowly progress to other varieties and even try multiple varieties on the same cycle. It is often the failed experiments that provide the best results. Don’t be let down in case it does not work out, just keep trying.

You can always start from planting a seed or skip the queue and begin with a small sapling. Hydroponics with seeds is easier when compared with planting a sapling but the former takes longer to cultivate. Starting with a sapling gives you faster harvest but needs more care for it to adapt to hydroponics.

All plants require light to grow and that means just light, not sunlight. In hydroponics, we use artificial lights to stimulate photosynthesis in the plants. There are choices of different lights to choose from. Visit a gardening store to explore the variable alternatives. Different plants require different amount of exposure, so it’s advised that you research on the plant before you decide to raise them.

The nutrient solution in the hydroponic system is the lifeline of the plants. Having too much concentration or too less concentration of nutrition is sure to wither your plant. Always stick to a recommended level.

Build your own greenhouse or buy one. Protect the hydroponics from exposure to bad weather and pests so that your plants stay undisturbed and provide you with a full harvest.
