A fantastic tour to Lonavala

The beauty of Lonavala and Khandala cannot be fully explored in a single day. But here is a rundown which will help you to plan a tour for a day to Lonavala on a short weekend. Read on.



Drive in or take a train from Pune or Mumbai. Pune is about 60 km. A ride from a Pune to Lonavala by bike will take a little more than an hour. It is always better to start early morning with a fresh mind and enjoying the bright surroundings on your way to Lonavala. There are several hotels in Lonavala, you can pick any of them for a good stay. After a good breakfast wear your most comfortable shoes as you have lots of trekking options here.


If you travel a distance of around 10 km from Lonavala, the popular Duke's nose awaits you. It is a well-known place among the trekkers and hikers. The panoramic view of the valley down from here is mindblowing and if you walk more 2 km from here another cliff-top known as Tiger’s Leap or Tiger’s Point will win your heart. Explore for a while around Tiger's Point. During monsoon, the small beautiful and sparkling waterfalls here is the added attraction. After a good break, make Bushi Dam your next destination. The lake formed by this dam and the surroundings which also attracts different migratory birds is one of the must places to visit in Lonavala. Relax and enjoy the serenity of the lake.


Well, a visit to Lonavala is incomplete without a trip to Karla Caves. It is a rock-cut cave and one of the oldest among the Buddhist temple architectures in India. The cave and the complex are fairly big. It is a good place for the history buff. The grandeur of Karla Caves may force you to spend a whole day here. After such a good trek in and around Lonavala in the evening, it is better to relax and enjoy in the hotels in Lonavala. With some delicious food and Maharashtrian dishes by choice, an evening in Lonavala can be a memorable one as well.



Nestled in the Sahyadri range, Lonavala is charming. It is a popular shooting spot. Near to the big cities like Mumbai and Pune, a town with so much greenery is unthinkable. Be it a leisure travellers, history buffs or romantic couples, the town offers something to everyone. Lonavala and Khandala are about 2 km away and commonly considered as the twin town. You can individually explore the towns or plan a single trip to this region.



If you are fond of sweets, then Lonavala let you carry a bagful of sweet memories from your vacation. Wafers, canned jams, chivda and sev are found in abundance in this region of Maharashtra. You will certainly take back a delightful basket not just for you but also for your relatives and well-wishers. Lonavala Bazaars, Maganlal Chikki Center and National Chikki are the right shops to hunt.



You can also travel by trains. Almost majority of the trains which travel between Pune and Mumbai take a halt in Lonavala. From Mumbai, it takes 2 and a half hour to reach Lonavala by train. Check train ticket booking and book the appropriate train from your station.
