A Brief History of cheap Watches

by superpopular s. my home
It's extremely interesting that the last letter in the Greek alphabet was selected by Louis Brandt for the name of his pocket watch creation in 1848. The letter is OMEGA and it is the symbol for high accomplishment and perfection. Brandt's first winding pocket Wholesale Watches were manufactured using whatever parts he could utilize and he began marketing his Omega watches to neighboring countries through a business associate in England.

To this day the Omega company continues to ensure that the highest quality remains in every Omega watch. The efforts and dedication to these ethics have no doubt contributed to the association between fine watches and Switzerland which is the birthplace of the Omega watch as well as the Brandt legacy.

Over the 150 year history of cheap discount watches this commitment has led to numerous awards as well as global recognition as a product equal in all respects to the top names in the industry such as Oris, Longines and Gruen.

The first of these prestigious awards came at the 1900 Paris World Fair where it received awards for quality and innovative design. Omega was subsequently recognized again by establishing the world precision record at the Kew-Teddington observatory of England in 1936.

Over the past decades the OMEGA reputation endures since being awarded the distinction as the official timekeeper at 21 Olympic Games. No less remarkable was the historical accomplishment as the first electronic timekeeping system in an Olympic event at the 1952 Helsinki games.

Louis Brandt passed away in 1879 and his sons Louis-Paul and Cesar assumed leadership of the Omega tradition. Shortly after his passing they moved the company to Bienne, Switzerland.

Less than 20 years later in 1903 both of the brothers passed away and Paul-Emile Brandt became one of the principles in the Omega company at the young age of 23. The company expanded when it merged with Tissot in 1930 and has since grown to over 50 companies which include such notable brands as Lanco and Hamilton which are renown and respected manufacturers of clocks and timekeeping devices.

In 1965 the Omega Speedmaster was chosen as the official watch of the NASA space program. Four years later the Speedmaster was on the wrist of Neil Armstrong when he stepped onto the surface of the moon for the first time. This selction by NASA is especially notable in light of the efforts by other top manufacturers to gain this distinction. However, the fact President John F. Kennedy made it known his watch of choice was indeed Omega may have had some influence on the selection. Nevertheless the watch remains as one of the industry's finest and no doubt will continue to maintain this reputation.

In 2007 the bangle bracelet watch company developed the Seamaster model specifically to represent the New Zealand team in the world cup sailing competition. Omega derived the Seamaster name from the boat that won the America's Cup competition in 1995.

The reputation of these exceptional timekeeping devices can be be traced back to its' founder and will forever be attributed to the company's commitment to maintain that fine legacy.
