7 Most Useful PRP Hair Treatment FAQs Decoded

by DHI India Hair Transplant Doctors/Clinics in Chennai
The growing success of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy in hair regrowth treatments has given birth to a variety of questions. We have compiled a list of answers regarding these questions below:

What is PRP treatment?

Platelet-rich plasma or PRP therapy is a non-surgical procedure to boost hair growth. A small amount of blood (50ml) is taken from the patient’s body and centrifuged at a very high speed to separate the plasma.
Platelet-rich plasma thus obtained is then injected into the scalp of the patient. It contains a special type of protein that stimulates hair growth.

Who should opt for a PRP treatment?

People with areas of weak hair growth on the scalp, where hair follicles are still alive, and those suffering from alopecia areata or spot baldness are ideal candidates for PRP hair treatment.
These types of patients are most likely to benefit from the treatment.

What is ACell or BioD? How do they help when combined with PRP treatment?

ACell (porcine bladder-derived) or BioD (human amniotic placenta-derived) are Extracellular Matrix or ECM products. When combined with PRP in appropriate quantities, stronger and longer duration hair growth is observed.

How long does a PRP treatment last?

PRP therapy is time-effective. It lasts no more than an hour.

When should I expect results from PRP treatment?

Well, it takes around 6-9 months to see full results. However, the results vary from people to people. Some see results in fewer months. The best way to check results is to discuss with your performing surgeon.

What are the benefits of PRP treatment?

• Safe & quick treatment
• Strengthens existing hair
• Arrests hair fall
• Promotes hair growth
• Prolongs Anagen phase
• Plasma multiplied to 5x (highest in the industry)
• No side effects
• Immediate results
• Can be used individually or with any hair transplant treatments

What is the recovery period after PRP therapy?

There is no downtime as such in PRP therapy. You can resume to your daily routine right after the treatment. You can take a shower, shampoo, and even style your hair if you want. However, there are a few things you should keep away from. These include:
• Hair colouring should be avoided for at least 72 hours.
• Hair perming treatment should be avoided for at least 72 hours after the treatment.
• Topical growth treatments like Minoxidil 82M should not be taken for 24 hours after the treatment.
• Laser treatment should be given a break of 24 hours after the treatment.
