7 Essential Facts You Should Know About Alloy Steel - Infographic
by Kristen White BloggerAlloy steel is mostly used in manufacture pipes and commonly for energy-related applications. It’s also used in the manufacturing of heating elements in appliances like toasters, silverware, pots and pans, and corrosion-resistant containers.
Alloy steel contains a wide variety of elements, each of which can enhance various properties of the material, such as mechanical thermal and corrosion resistance. Elements added in low quantities of less than around 5 % tend to improve mechanical properties, for example increasing harden ability and strength, whereas larger additions of up to 20 % increase corrosion resistance and stability at high or low temperatures. Vanadium increases strength, maintains ductility and also helps in promoting a fine grain structure. Overall, alloy steels can exhibit increased strength, ductility and toughness.
