6 ways to care and maintain your clip in hair extensions

by Eva Spenser Innovation

When the hair seems sparse or probably you need to add a dash of bling to your hair, clip-in hair extensions get to be your best friend. Unlike Halo extensions, there is no messy glue required to set up the extensions and all you need to do is clip it to the area you need it to be there.

While it always essential to use good quality extensions, it not just gives a great look to your hair but also lasts longer without you having to spend money over and over again. While it is essential to maintain your extensions well just so that it is smooth and shiny all the time, here are a few suggestions coming in from the hair experts.

Wash them regularly

If you are someone who uses the extensions every day of even regularly, ensure that you wash them every week. Dust, dirt and perspiration from your scalp can make it dirty. If you clip it on once in a while, washing it after two or three weeks would do. Once washed, ensure that it is dried properly and not become lumps of sticky and unruly hair extensions.

Use a good shampoo

Remember that hair extension may be real hair, but it doesn’t have roots that nourish it. It is lifeless and is likely to help you with your extensions all the while. Using a gentle shampoo that doesn’t contain sulphate can do wonders. Avoid harsh chemicals for the extensions, and you can watch them stay soft and smooth for a very long time.

Remove the extensions before wash

If you think that washing your clip-in hair extensions along with your hair saves time and effort, you are doing it wrong. We generally tend to rub our scalp and hair rigorously when applying shampoo and that is harmful to your extensions. Too much of rubbing can lead to tangling.

Use a good conditioner

Just as you would use it for your hair, do the same for the hair extensions too. When you are done with washing them separately, use a good conditioner and place it on a towel for it to absorb the goodness of the conditioner. Once dry, use a drop of oil and then comb the hair. This will keep it soft, smooth and shiny.

Opt for deep conditioning of the extensions

Since the hair extensions don’t receive the natural oils from the scalp as the real hair, there is the need for deep conditioning every once in a while. This allows your hair extensions to stay smooth and hydrated and not lose its shine and lustre after a few months. When you have purchased good quality hair extensions, it shouldn’t become something that can be replaced soon.

Do not bleach the extensions

If you want coloured clip in hair extensions, buy them separately but avoid bleaching your existing extensions as bleach is known to extract all the moisture from the hair as well as the colour of the hair is lost.
