5.      Understand the business usage of your data.

Where is the data coming from? Is this a credible source? Who has the authority to edit this? How will this data be useful for the organization? It is crucial to create a chart where the data is coming. This will give you a clear idea as to where the data is being used.

6.     Get the architecture of the data correct.

Once you have a set of definitions and data structure, you should start working to make sure that these definitions have support within the databases which are holding the rest of your company's data.
