6 Interior Design Tips Inspired By the Ancient Indian Science of Vaastu

Introduction

‘Vaastu Shastra’ is an ancient Indian architectural science which prescribes certain principles of home design, which are aimed at increasing the flow of positive energy in a home. Although today’s modern apartments cannot be wholly built based on Vaastu, there are certain tips we can borrow from this age-old art to bring positivity into your home, as well as health, wealth and harmony, all of this with a dash of great style! I shared these tips with students pursuing an interior designing course at one of the leading interior designing colleges in Delhi recently during my workshop there, and I’ll be sharing the same with my readers today. Here we go!

• Keep Your Home Clutter-free

Keep your home clean and organized. Make sure your rooms are open and airy, which brings in positive energy.

• Keep it colourful!

Using colour in your homes not only provides relief from the monotony of plain white or cream walls, but also adds brightness to the home, thereby lifting the positivity in the ambiance. But make sure you do not overuse bold and bright colours, as they can fill the room with a lot of energy and take away peace and quiet.

• Add Nature to your home

Nature is,needless to say, very calming, tranquil and positive. Flower arrangements, potted plants or even floating petals in an urn can add a refreshing element to any room. Make sure to keep the plants and flowers fresh which brings positive energy, and ensure they do not wilt, which brings in negative energy.

• Use Mirrors

Mirrors serve as a tool for reflecting positive energy in Vaastu. If placed correctly, they can bring in wealth and happiness into the home. Place a large mirror near a dining table, so that it reflects your family having food. Similarly, place a mirror in the living room, which makes it look bigger.

• Keep Happy Images

Adding images or photographs such as happy family pictures or calming landscapes can increase the positivity in any area. You can also use images of the sunrise, the ocean or a waterfall to increase the flow of energy.

• Use Symbols Of Positive Energy

Vaastu employs pyramids or yantra to harmonize negative energies in your home. Usually, glass or crystal pyramids are used for this purpose. You can also research other symbols of positive energy and keep them in your home.
