Weddings in India is not just about celebration, fun and feast, it is also about connecting to people, following the age old rituals and welcoming a stranger into their core, strongly knitted family.

1. Forget all assumption of western style weddings

Unlike western wedding ceremonies, indian style weddings are much more elaborated,fun and rushy. Usually indian weddings can last for three to four days hence be prepared to be part of all the functions.


2. Jewellery is an important part of indian weddings

Wearing jewellery in indian weddings are considered auspicious. Usually in western culture weddings, brides wear minimum sleek jewellery while in indian weddings brides are supposed to wear heavy jewellery in gold, diamond or costume ones even. Indian weddings are usually attended by huge guest numbers. Hence you should be mentally prepared to face such a huge crowd and ask blessings from each of them as they come to meet you.

In western weddings only bride wears a long white gown and she is the only one who is stealing the show. In Indian weddings people love to dress to look gorgeous and different from rest of the crowd. They may wear the clothes similar to the bride as well. But never mind, it is part of the culture hence it is better to enjoy these rather feeling bad about it.


5. Remember marriage is not only about the couple

In Indian culture, marriages are planned by the families from the very day the child is born. During wedding ceremonies parents try to make it as grand as possible but there are certain dreams that the couple has. It may happen that you don’t agree to a way in which things are happening, it is better to sit with your family and make them understand. Even if they don’t agree, it is advised to leave the things there only rather upsetting your in-laws and giving them bad impression just at the beginning.
