5 Reasons Why You Should Wear Your Glasses Religiously

by Erica Lorenzo Brand and Lifestyle Consultant

Today, glasses are seen as a fashion statement. No wonder, since more and more stylish frames are coming out in the market, suited for every face shape and consumer preference. Even people who don’t need graded or reading glasses wear them, just because it completes their look.

However, when it comes to people who need it, some of them still aren’t used to the new look. Others find it an uncomfortable accessory while there are those who just aren’t used to the change. But since it’s prescribed to make them see clearer, it’s necessary to wear them at all times.

Let’s take a closer look at the top five reasons why you should always wear your glasses.

1. Protects your eyes from the sun

There are now selections of prescription eyewear that come with polarized lenses to filter out horizontal light waves. This helps eliminate glare as this can cause serious harm to your eyes (e.g., loss of central vision and cataracts).

Also, there are now prescription sunglasses to suit your look. So, if you’re out and about under the scorching sun, you can have a clear vision and at the same time, protect your eyes from harmful UV rays – in style.

2. Reduces eye strain

Squinting your eyes to read better instead of wearing your glasses can only make matters worse. If you constantly leave your glasses at home, your eyes will exert more effort in identifying objects or writings, which may cause eye strain and headaches.

The solution to alleviate the strain is to wear your glasses every day. Let it do its job at serving you clear images rather than leaving it on your desk at work or at home.

3. It makes reading comfortable

Do you have trouble reading on your smartphone, the fine print in your favorite novel, or the block of text in newspapers? That’s one of the main reasons why you shouldn’t take off your glasses. Sure, you could argue that squinting your eyes help you read better, but think about how much strain that puts on them. Plus, reading without your prescription glasses will only worsen your eye condition.

4. Makes your daily life easier

If you find yourself holding a book farther away to read it (farsightedness) or your phone too close to type a message (nearsightedness), then that’s one of the many signs that going on with your day sans glasses interrupt simple tasks. Aside from daily routines, it can also affect your performance and productivity at work.

Walking around without your spectacles can cause you to bump into things, make it harder to drive (prescription glasses are vital when driving), cause headaches due to long hours in front of a computer, or make it difficult to perform other daily tasks.

5. It’s a medical device

Finally, glasses are medical devices first and foremost. They help keep your vision crystal clear at all times. The stylish selection of frames is just the cherry on top.

Whether you’re nearsighted or farsighted; or if you have astigmatism, you need to practice the good habit of regularly wearing your prescribed spectacles to help you see. There are even prescription glasses that can significantly help with vision-related migraines.

Summing it up

Glasses can be fashionable, but they aren’t just an accessory to make you look smart. They’re a necessity for people who need clearer vision in their lives. The more comfortable you see, the more you can enjoy your daily activities. The world is full of wonderful sights; you deserve to marvel in it, clear as day—no squinting or eye strain.

Remember, eye care is as important as keeping your body healthy. Get used to your glasses and embrace its purpose. Soon, you won’t even notice the tiniest obstructions you were worried about before. Consult with your optometrist to assess your eye health and help you choose the appropriate eyewear in all circumstances for you.
