5 Reasons Why Website Visitors Opt-In To Get Freebies

by Otoabasi Umonting Marketing Consultant & Coach

Let's start by listing the reason and then break them down one by one:

1. It's free, so why not
2. They really need the info
3. They are curious about the info
4. They are "collectors" of info
5. They like the person offering the freebie

Let's examine these categories of people...

#1. It's Free, So Why Not?
---------------------------------------
These individuals are usually the "shinny object" people, and are prone to opting in to access any freebie that picks their fancy, regardless if they need it or not.

Down the line, they may become interested in what you're doing, but taking the next step to becoming a client/customer may not become a feasible outcome.

#2. They Really Need The Information
-------------------------------------------------------
These individuals are usually ideal clients/customers. They have seen the benefits the info within the freebie will bring to them, and they are willing to take the next step.

The people within this category are often easier to sell to, IF you continue to add value to them. Some may even convert from day one, while some may need some more 'nurturing' (via email and social media), to make a decision. The best way to approach these individuals is by staying within their topic of interest.

#3. They Are Curious About The Information
----------------------------------------------------------------
These individuals are not usually motivated by certain claims, and in order to be sure what is said is actually accurate, they don't mind going further to opt-in, in order to satisfy their curiosity. They possess a more analytical mind.

Down the line, if they realise the information they have received or are receiving has brought them value, then they are more likely to become buyers; when they do, they may end up becoming your top ambassadors. Transparency is the 'food' these individual 'feed' on!

#4. They Are "Collectors" Of Information
----------------------------------------------------------
These individuals are either your competition or people who are just looking for new ways of doing things, not necessarily to become a client/customer.

The more they gather info, the more they learn. However, these individuals usually put themselves in a position of overwhelm, due to their insatiable desire for information.

#5. They Like The Person Offering The Freebie
--------------------------------------------------------------------
These individuals can also be classified as ideal clients/customers. They follow people who they know, like and trust, and when that person offers something of value, they are more likely to check it out, regardless if it pertains to their needs or not.

They are more likely to promote the freebie to their own network, in order to further help the person they are following. These individuals are the best, when it comes to Joint Venture partnerships and affiliate promos. Keep them close!

Conclusion

-----------------

Is it possible to determine who's who, based on the people who opt-in to access your freebie?

Thinking in that direction might give you a headache. My suggestion would be to focus on creating valuable emails and social media content, and add value to those who REALLY need the information you're sharing.

With that said, you can create tags within your emails in order to segment people into different lists, based on their behaviors (e.g. opens, clicks, or replies). Email tools such as ActiveCampaign, ConvetKit, Drip, InfusionSoft, and many others, can help you achieve this purpose.

There will always be people who will stay dormant within your list, no matter how well you craft your messages. There are people who will always respond (i.e. open, click, etc), and there are those who may respond a few months or even a year later.

Another thing to consider are spam filters... be sure to tell your subscribers to add your email to their list of contacts, so that way, they can receive your emails straight into their inbox.

The key things to focus on here are:

- Value based content
- Proper emailing structure
- Topic relevance
- Empathy (make it about them)
- Storytelling
- Effective automation sequences
- Irresistible offers
