5 Reasons to Pursue Higher Education through Distance Education

by July Robert Distance Learning
We know distance education is becoming very popular these days. It is in demand among the youth as well as the working class. It uses modern and state-of-the-art teaching and learning tools to impart education and is much more flexible in nature. While some people think distance education holds no value or authenticity, it isn’t true, but yes, it is important to choose a reputed and recognized university otherwise, even a regular degree pursued from a un-recognized university holds no value.

So, if you too are thinking of pursuing a course, let us give you some reasons to choose distance education:

1.Pocket-friendly: Most distance education courses are much more pocket-friendlier than regular university/college courses. They also save the money required to travel to and fro. Also, you can save money on food and accommodation if you choose distance learning or an online course. Many universities outside India offer distance learning as a medium, so by opting for it you can still pursue your course, but without leaving the country or spending too much money.

2.Earn and study simultaneously:This is probably one of the biggest benefits of distance education that you can work part time or full time, even while pursuing your education, which is difficult or impossible with a regular university course. Some people have to discontinue their education due to financial reasons or some family or health issues, distance education gives them an opportunity and a medium to continue their education and complete their degree or pursue a course which they always wanted to do.

3.Pursue more than one course at the same time:With distance education you can work as discussed above or take up to two courses simultaneously. You could choose two specializations or choose one long term and one short term course. These days just a traditional degree like B.A., B.Com, B.Sc., etc. is not enough to get you a good and high paying job and even if you get one it becomes difficult to grow and progress due to such high competition which includes people with multiple higher education degrees and specializations.

4.Flexible: Distance education is much more flexible in its approach and methodologies. The student is not required to attend classes, although certain universities/institutes are offering evening or weekend classes, but often they aren’t compulsory or can be attended after office hours. Also, in distance learning student has the option of posting or emailing his/her assignments and there is sometimes even an option of ‘on-demand’ exams, where the student can pick his/her own date and time of the exam from the slots offered.

5.Similar options like regular courses:Most universities/institutes offering distance education programmes follow the same syllabus as their regular courses. They provide their students with similar books and suggest same reference material as they suggest their regular students. The only difference is instead of classroom learning the students do self-studying.Universities/institutes offering distance education offer similar courses for their correspondence students as they offer to their regular students.
