5 Reasons to Love Marine Biology Camps
by Kevin Smith AuthorThe tradition of summer camp has been around for as long as
we can remember. For many adults, memories of summer camp rank as among their
fondest memories of childhood. It's unfortunate, however, that many parents
neglect to give their own children the same experiences. Now, with the recent
advent of marine biology camps, summer camps have
gotten even more exciting. Here are a few reasons to enroll your child in a
marine biology camp.
1. Explore the Ocean
Perhaps nothing is more important to the development of a
young mind than interacting with nature. Marine biology camps give children the
opportunity to take a close up look at the ocean and its inhabits, so they can
see and explore amazing sights while getting an education in the process. The
experience also teaches them the important role they have to play in
appreciating and protecting an environment that's always under threat.
2. Learn Social Skills
Putting kids in an environment that's neither a traditional
school nor the home gives them a chance to learn how to associate with other
children in a more independent manner. Working with other kids and mentors
teaches them how to build friendships and manage conflict.
3. Encourage a Healthy Lifestyle
With child obesity being a growing epidemic, putting kids in
an outdoor atmosphere with a host of activities encourages them to get out and
play more. Furthermore, it's good for both adults and children to rediscover
the wonder in nature, and pull themselves away from their electronic devices.
Going whale watching, or discovering tide pools for the first time are great
motivations for putting down their cell phones.
4. Excite the Imagination
Summer shouldn't be the time of year when children just sit
and watch TV. Being away from school should be treated instead as an
opportunity to expand their education, not limit it. Marine biology camp is a
fun way to keep the education going, but outside the traditional classroom
environment.
5. Build Self-Confidence
The kinds of activities kids can partake in during marine biology
camp are challenges they won't get anywhere else. Embarking on new adventures
gives them the feeling that they've done things they didn't know they could do
before, filling them with the confidence they need to take on more challenges
in the future.
Going to a marine biology camp
isn't just fun and educational. It's a present your giving your child that
lasts a lifetime.
