2.Not Checking Purity

The purity of gold is measured in karats. For example, 24-karat implies 99.99% pure gold. However, jewellery is usually not made in 24 karat gold, rather it is mixed with other metals to give it its sturdy form. For instance, 23 karat or 95.8% gold is the purest form of gold jewellery. One should be aware that the Bureau Of Indian Standards is the only authorized agency to give the hallmark of the purity of gold. 

3.Not Spotting All The 5 Hallmark Signs

These hallmark signs comprise of- The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) logo, karatage, the jeweller’s logo or identification, year of marking and the hallmarking centre’s mark. These particular signs need to be clearly embossed on the gold jewellery so that buyers know the jewellery has been made following the required standards.

4.Forgetting To Keep The Invoice Carefully

Be sure to keep the retail invoice of the purchased gold jewellery with you. Such an invoice should mention the making charges, the price of gold, the karatage, BIS and hallmark details. In addition to this, make sure to find out the details on buy-back offers and the resale value of the gold jewellery you have purchased.
