You can go for telephone poles, porches, fence posts, or other supports to make great posts for your hammock. As long as you know where to look and trust the strength of the posts, you won’t have any trouble finding an area to set up.

However, it might not be possible to find as many posts and poles in the wilderness. Fortunately, state and national parks are setting up more hammock posts, and there are various poles and posts you can use in the area.

This tip is more suitable for those who are in places with more posts and poles around such as homes or in urban areas and parks. Just make sure that you are allowed to set up hammocks in the area and that the structure is strong enough to withstand the hammock and your weight.

A few buildings and structures in parks and beaches are actually built for hammocking as well! You can ask the staff in the park or beach to find out the legal areas to set your hammock up in. Fortunately, they usually allow you to hang your hammock in these structures, so there’s no worry about using any trees.

This is a great method for those in national and state parks or beaches, but not meant for urban areas (though I’m sure no one would set up their hammock in the middle of the city!).

Hammocks come in different shapes and designs, with some being more adaptable compared to others. When out in nature, you won’t always be able to find two perfect trees, which is why you can use any of the methods above.

But what if you don’t have the right strap and need to make sure it can fit more than just trees, but cars or other structures? Investing in the right friction-based hammock system will be a lifesaver. This allows you to adjust your hammock according to your preference and measurements, and to make it versatile enough so you can use it in most areas.
