by Jack Tucker IT Support Engineer

The thought of losing your phone might give you shudders. To ease that stress, it is better to take some precautions. For instance, you can get an anti-theft app for your Android phone. So let’s check out the 5 best anti-theft apps for Android.

1. Find My Device

This is one Google’s best apps. It helps you find your phone remotely. You can find your lost device by tracking, ringing a loud alarm, locking or freezing it remotely.

To use the “Find My Device” app follow the below steps:

  1. Download the Find My Device app from Google Play Store.
  2. Open the app and then sign in with your Google account.
  3. Always keep the mobile data and location on (Antitheft mostly works when the location and data is turned on).
  4. Follow the onscreen instructions if there are any, and then you are safe.

Now you can use your other phone to track it. If you don’t have another smartphone, then you can also use your PC, to see the current location of your device.

2. Avast Mobile Security

Avast Mobile Security isn’t an ordinary antivirus; it has a robust anti-theft system which has a lot of features that are helpful to find and protect a device which is stolen or lost. A user can remotely ring alarms and sirens, track device, and can control the lost smartphone remotely. You will have to buy a subscription to get this feature.

3. Cerberus

It is a third party app which is built to access a lost or stolen device remotely. This app has almost every feature that is needed when a phone gets stolen. It can locate, track, lock, sound alarm, upload call logs, and can wipe SD card or internal storage. It can secretly capture photos and record videos of the one who has your device. It can also record audio through the phone’s microphone secretly in the background. Cerberus comes with seven days of a free trial, and you can continue to use it with a paid subscription.

4. Prey

Prey is a cross-device anti-theft software which is installed in various devices. It can track laptops, tablets, and other devices. It allows you to set a geo-fencing area, and whenever it breached, Prey will show you an alert in your another Prey-linked device. You can see the location, take photos of a person who steals your device, and can lock it remotely.

5. Anti-Theft Alarm

As you can know about it by its name, it will ring a loud siren in certain circumstances. You can set some conditions to sound its alarm such as moved from its place, if the sim card is removed or replaced or someone unplugs the phone from charging. The siren can also be started remotely, and it won’t stop unless the thief removes the battery or throws it away.
