Protecting your computer is a necessity if you want to stay out of harm's way especially on the internet. This is why learning how to secure your personal computer is a big deal. With the number of new computer viruses being developed each day, more and more users are having their information compromised since there's a flaw in their security system.

This doesn't have to happen to you. You can learn how to secure your computer simply and easily and that is the intent of this article. Inside of this article, you will learn little-known computer security tips that you can use to protect your personal computer. These tips are all things that I do and have advised others, so you can lay rest assured that they will work for you too. Here's the first tip that I can give for securing your computer.

1) Don't open up email attachments

Emails from unknown users shouldn't be opened in the first place, but opening up an email that has an attachment is a large no-no. You should never start an attachment from someone that you don't know because that attachment can have some sort of virus inside of it. Even if the sender is familiar, you should be wary of opening their attachments because you have no idea of what they do online. Be very careful when opening up emails from strangers as you never know what the result of it may be.

2) Don't download all kinds of programs

If you're someone who likes to download a lot of things, sometimes these downloads can infect your personal computer. You should also be cautious about sending these email messages to others as you can infect their computer also. Be wary of the sites that you visit online because sites that don't seem like they can infect you will do so and your information can be compromised. Also, try your best to remain off inappropriate sites for minors. These sites are rampant for computer infections and can infect you if you're not careful.

3) Disconnect from the network

You should disconnect your computer from the network and turn it fully off so that your computer isn't available to the internet. Believe it or not, even though you're not browsing the web, a hacker can still get to your PC through your network connection. Because of this, you will want to fully disconnect from the internet each time that you're done on the computer.

4) Make backups

Backups are very important to have just in case anything goes wrong. If you lost the information on your computer, how would you go about getting that information back? If you don't have any flash drives or CD-ROMs that you can use to back up your files, you should consider using an online service to backup your documents. There's one site called "mediafire.com" that you can sign up for free and backup your information for you. Backup is important, so you should start doing them today.
