4 of the Best Summer Skincare Tips

by Natalie W. Freelance Writer and Researcher

Summer is here and whilst you may be looking forward to warm days, cool drinks and holidays, there are some things which don’t just disappear as soon as the sun comes out. Just like winter, the summer months can bring a whole host of skincare troubles with them, but just a few tweaks and changes to your regimen can ensure that you keep your skin in its best condition all year round.

Facial Skin Care

Your face acts as your identity to the world, so looking after it all year round should be one of your top priorities. In the summer months though, you need a skincare regime which not only hydrates but keeps your skin clean and dirt-free. During hot spells, in particular, you should try to keep your face clear of sweat and dust, as they can make your skin look dull.

To avoid this, aim to use a facial scrub 1-2 times a week to exfoliate and remove any build up of skin cells. To soothe the skin afterwards, use a gentle toner and follow with a light moisturiser. Following cleansing and exfoliating, you shouldn't leave skin bare for more than 30 seconds, as this may cause it to dry out.

Use Weather Appropriate Products

The thick creams you rely on during the winter months will do nothing for your skin during the summer months. Store them away for next winter, or use them only for very dry areas of the body. Summer months require skincare products which allow the skin to breathe, so you should ideally look for lighter serums or lotions.

Remember To Use Suncream

UV rays can be harmful to your skin at any time of the year, but during the summer months, when we are more exposed to the sun’s damaging rays. Ideally, you should be using a suncream which has a minimum of 30 SPF and is best applied around 30 minutes before you head into the sun. If you are going swimming, then you should reapply as often as you can as it won’t be as long-lasting in the water.

If you are applying makeup over the top of suncream, then try to put it on as far in advance as possible and give it time to absorb. You can buy gel-based suncream which also works as a primer underneath foundation. Regularly applying suncream can go a long way in protecting against skin damage and helps to delay any premature onset of sun spots, wrinkles or fine lines.

Stick to the Basics

You might think that your skin can’t get dry in the summer, but this is a very common myth. Moving to and from air-conditioned spaces can wreak havoc on your skin and cause it to dry out. In order to prevent any dry patches from breaking out, it is important you maintain your skincare regime in the evenings. As sweat can cause our pores to open up, which may lead to spot outbreaks or blackheads, following your usual cleansing, toning and moisturising routine is important.

If, even after following all of these tips, you are still suffering from skin troubles, then you may need to seek professional advice. Visiting an Aesthetic clinic Manchester based may be the answer to your skin troubles, as they are one of the best areas in the country for top quality aesthetic procedures. If you are looking for something a bit more permanent, then contacting a cosmetic surgery Cheshire based is a great way to tackle acne or other skin issues, such as visible veins.
