As Fall draws closer and the leaves begin to change color, your family will be busy trying to decide what to do during this festive time of year. In most cases, people can be reluctant to spending money worrying about their kids at the local pumpkin festival, but that does not mean they have to put up with boring activities. There are plenty of activities that the whole family can enjoy, regardless of budget.

Treasure Hunt

If you are organizing a fall event for your entire family, there are many ideas you can think of. One of the best ideas would be to go on a treasure hunt. With a treasure hunt, everyone will get the chance to work together while searching for something hidden. A large list of different items can be produced, but the family will also have an adventure by getting into a new one that they have never seen before. Fall is the perfect time for this kind of outdoor activity as the temperatures will be nice and cool.

The treasure hunt can take many forms, a good idea for a fun family activity is to make sure that everyone has the opportunity to find something hidden. By having some items that are related to the current season, everyone will find something new to try and enjoy. For example, a treasure hunt that is planned around Halloween will involve items that relate to the holiday. Items that are found during the quest should be in Halloween colors such as orange and black. Other items that can be included will be things like pumpkins, ghosts, and monsters. Halloween is a great holiday to celebrate and with a treasure hunt that is well planned, the whole family will be able to join in on the fun.

Visit a Pumpkin Patch

Fall is the perfect time to visit your local pumpkin patch or apple orchard. Here you can spend hours picking pumpkins to carve or decorate, or picking apples to take home and bake in a pie. These local areas typically have other activities to enjoy, in addition to the pumpkin patch. For example, some might have a corn maze where you can spend time trying to find your way out. Some have local food vendors where you can find delicious fall treats like caramel apples, donuts, and apple cider. These attractions will likely also have games or rides that can be enjoyed by the whole family. Many of these establishments offer coupons or other discounts like a Canadian mail-in rebate.

Enjoy a Picnic

Fall is the best time of year to spend outdoors as the temperature outside has begun to cool down but the cold winter has yet to arrive. This is a great time to pack a picnic and head to the local park. You can enjoy the changing colors of the leaves on the trees and spend some quality time in the great outdoors. Perhaps this would be a good time to take a drive through the countryside or up in the mountains, depending on your location. This is also a good opportunity to take your children on a hike! Take them on a family hike in the fall. Go hiking, bike riding, or take a tour. Go on a nature trail and see the fall leaves, bugs, and wildlife. They'll love it!

Take a Road Trip

Fall is a great time to take a weekend road trip as a family. Many places will have lower rates and fewer crowds as the autumn is considered an off-season for many tourist destinations. This is a great opportunity to spend time together as a family as children will likely begin returning to a traditional school schedule. It is also a great way for adults to sneak in a little vacation without having to worry about taking time off from work. Take the family on a trip to a local beach or forest. Take them to a cabin. Have a picnic or spend a day at a state park. Get the kids out and about to explore a town that you have never explored before.

Have a Dinner Party

Bring the family and some friends over for a dinner party and a good movie. Dinner can be as simple as a few hot dogs or a pot of chili, or you can make something more difficult if you enjoy cooking. Make a big pot of popcorn and have everyone sit down to watch a movie together. There are plenty of classic Halloween movies that the whole family will enjoy. If movies are not your thing, you can play a board game together, or just enjoy each other’s company.

No matter what you decide, one thing is certain: Autumn is the perfect time of year to spend with family and loved ones!
