4 common mistakes executive protection agents need to stop making

by Executive Protection Institute EPI was founded in 1978

Making mistakes when out in the field is very common for professionals and experienced executive protection officers. After all, they are also human beings. Despite being a human, it is important that all agents are active and work to a professional level at all times. Whether you are using an executive protection service or looking to improve your client-handling skills, here are 4 common mistakes that you need to avoid:

Befriending with clients

Trying to become close to someone we work with for a prolonged period of time is a natural feeling. However, in the case of an executive security officer, being friends with clients is not good for you, your clients and even your career. First, you need to understand the difference between being friends and being friendly. Trying to become close with a client is one thing and maintaining a positive polite attitude is something else. This differentiation can be learned from executive protection training.

Showing disrespect to others who work around the clients

If you are a security guard, you need to avoid this mistake. And, if you think that as a protective agent, you’re irreplaceable, you’re wrong. If a security company receives negative reviews about you from clients, they will take action. This problem occurs when an executive protection agent doesn’t give respect to the client’s executive assistant, house cleaner, chef, estate manager, and other staff members. So, you need to avoid this by giving the same level of respect for everyone.

Accepting the client’s lifestyle, company culture or personal preference

Imposing the personal cultural choices onto a client is not the job of a personal protection officer. So, you should maintain the right balance for the client and combine into the conditions properly as a protector. For example, if you come off as too militaristic, you are going to make your clients feel uneasy and uncomfortable, even though they may be safe. Your extremely outgoing nature can also irritate your client and could cause dangerous situations. So, try to stop making this mistake if you are a security guard.

Enforcing an ego

Having an ego doesn’t make you many friends on the security team. So, you need to stop making this mistake. This mistake can ruin your career as a personal protection officer. So, it is essential for protection officers to keep their ego aside at all times with their client and management. In the way of being professional, it is also important to not let personal ego get in the way of your work.

Mistakes are inevitable and a learning opportunity! Also, they help us to discover better ways of doing things. Once you stop these mistakes from happening, you will make your clients feel happy, safe and comfortable. And, you can stop making these mistakes for becoming a bodyguard.
